A cleanser is the first step in your skincare routine that removes makeup, dirt, and anything else on your skin that’s built up throughout the day. However, you’ll usually find that you need to use a separate makeup remover for your eye makeup.
There are several different forms of it on the market, from foams to gels, creams, micellar water and more. Which one you should use will depend on your skin type – you can find this out with our routine finder.
Is a Cleanser and a Face Wash the Same?
While both a cleanser and a face wash are used to clean your face, they’re not the same thing! A cleanser is used to remove the initial layer of dirt or product from the top of your skin, whereas a face wash is good for cleaning your pores more deeply afterwards.
Regularly using a face cleanser will lessen the chance of closed comedones, blackheads, and other blemishes appearing on your skin by minimising the amount of day-to-day skin build-up that clogs your pores.
How to Use a Cleanser?
You should use a cleanser twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, to remove any build-up on the skin. Exactly how much to use and how to apply will depend on the exact cleanser you use.
When it comes to where in your skincare routine you should use a face cleanser, it’s generally best as the second step, right after removing your eye makeup.
Should I Double Cleanse?
While using two cleansers is a bit of a fad, we advise against it. Our cleansers are gentle but effective at removing all makeup and SPF, so there’s no need to double up or add any extra unnecessary steps!
