Niacinamide And Its Benefits For Skin

If you saw last week’s video, you’ll know that I’m focused on prepping skin for a dry spell. Nearly everyone this week had noticed some new challenges with their skin hydration upon entering autumn. One of my winning strategies is to slip Niacinamide into a routine.

Niacinamide is the biologically active form of vitamin B-3 and it’s amazingly helpful in winter as it boosts barrier function by increasing ceramide production

This has the added bonus of increasing tolerance to topical retinoids, so its worth starting this before you start a retinoid if you have sensitive skin.

This is a great way to help improve compliance with retinoids in acne sufferers who also have a tendency to dry, sensitive skin.

In its own right, it’s helpful for blemishes as it’s an anti-inflammtory action. Plus the good news is there’s no risk of antibiotic resistance to it.

It’s helpful in hyperpigmentation, or the appearance of dark patches, as it reduces the transfer of pigment molecules melanin from melanocytes to skin cells the keratinocyte.

It’s a fantastic all-rounder that’s brilliantly well-tolerated so most can benefit from it. It’s also safe in pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

It can be used at anytime of day – it can be built into sunscreen in the morning and it can be used in a serum format at night. Look for products with 5% niacinamide for these well-studied benefits.

I like:
